Reflections about Blogging:
BIG IDEA ONE:
- Discuss the resources you explored in this lesson.
I chose Blogger on account it seemed most appropriate for me.
It also is the most streamlined with Google- what we use for work most often.
Why students should blog- is very insightful.
However, as a science teacher- it would mostly be background reading or reflections on lab types of reading-
Video blogging is cool and highly motivating to most middle school students-
I, however, teach special education students who have huge anxiety about videoing themselves-
I love the option of making an emoji person or some other computer animated version to reduce some of the anxieties.
I would use in a group type setting- where they could make a group video or group project so some of the anxiety would be reduced or so that a more confident student could be in the video if they preferred.
Cyber Saftey is a big thing these days-
Our district is offering all kinds of student trainings to help students perform more safely on the internet.
I feel the blog would be a safe place to discuss within the constraints of learning - and really help students see the permanence of things they put out into the cyber world.
BIG IDEA TWO:
- Do you see value in the use of blogging with your students?
There is always value to presenting and sharing ideas in a digital platform-
With add-ons and extensions- it makes directions able to be read aloud to students as well as translated into numerous languages.
BIG IDEA THREE:
- How might you use blogs to enhance or transform a student writing project?
However, as a science teacher- it would mostly be background reading
Or reflections on lab types of reading-
BIG IDEA FOUR:
- Other thoughts about student blogging?
A great resource to get kids thinking and reflecting in today's learning environment.
A great way to connect to more educational professionals
A great way to present multiple platforms in a coherent stream - however, I still prefer Google as it is more streamlined for the classroom setting.
